National Schools Competition
Harlington Upper school rule!Harlington Upper school led the way at the weekend when six squads from Bedfordshire travelled to Essex for the East-of-England Regional Schools Netball tournament. With a place in the national finals at stake, play was intense on a cold but bright day. County champions and runners-up from across seven counties met to contest this prestigious event. It was no surprise then that competition was fierce and passionate. Harlington was the only school to have representation in each of the three age groups. In the U19 section, Harlington swept all before them as they sailed through the group stage before triumphing in both the semi-final, and then a very close and high standard final against Goffs of Hertfordshire. Harlington go through to the national stage as Bedfordshire’s only survivors. Sharnbrook contested the same age group and they just missed out on semi-final qualification. In the U16 section, Redbourne progressed second furthest for Beds with excellent play that kept them on track right up until the semi-final stage of this section. However, a spirited performance in the semi saw them narrowly defeated. In the same section, Harlington just missed out on a semi-final place following a good run in the group stage. In the U14 section, a return of four wins and two defeats from six group games for both Harlington and Dame Alice Harpur was just short of enough to continue progress into the Semi-final stage of this age group. Both squads will be looking to return to this level after gaining valuable experience. Overall, with 42 squads contesting across the age groups, no Bedfordshire school squad finished lower than equal fourth in any section.
